What if you Could Pick Your Child's Sex?

General Health, Mind

There is a new proposition which is being pushed in the UK (Human Fertility and Embryology Bill) which would allow people to legally select the “sex” of their unborn child. Up until now, the highly controversial practice of choosing your unborn child’s sex has been prohibited, but many UK couples have been getting around this by traveling abroad for the procedure.

The question that many people are asking is “Is this really a good idea?”

Many UK couples have been traveling abroad so they could visit clinics that performed the “sex choice” procedures. They have literally put themselves at risk due to the unregulated health care that is being provided by these outside clinics. This is proof positive that the demand for such procedures is there.

The real question of such a procedure is, religious concerns aside, “What impact will this have on society and breeding?”.

Even if you rule out the obvious moral questions of letting couples choose their child’s sex, how will this effect the balance of society. Up to this point in human history, the “male-female” balance has been determined by “mother nature” and “chance”.

When we take chance out of the equation, what will the effect on our population be?
